Image to ASCII art
Turn a picture into ASCII character art — copy the text or download a PNG.
Choose a picture, drag one here, or paste a screenshot (Ctrl / Cmd + V).
How it works
Each cell of a grid over your picture is averaged to a brightness value, then mapped to a character from dark to light. Density sets how many columns the grid has — more columns mean more detail. Invert is useful for dark pictures or dark chat backgrounds.
Sharing
Copy text gives you plain characters that line up in any monospace setting. Download PNG renders the art with a fixed-width font so it never falls apart in chats, and puts a small PlainKit mark in the corner.
Private by default
Your picture never leaves your device — there is no server to send it to. Color is only for the preview and the PNG, because plain text has no color.
